Come share a free meal and talk with neighbors about how to strengthen year-round community and school engagement for all. Hear from Vermont author Susan Clark about what’s happening and what’s possible in local democracy, from Town Meeting traditions to today.

How can we strengthen our local democracy and participation in Bethel and the White River Valley Schools? Join your neighbors to share stories and experiences, discuss what’s working and what could be improved in our community, identify our common civic values, and find ways of strengthening community engagement locally.
Topics will include town meeting, voting, and identifying action steps to support local democratic engagement throughout the year.
Susan Clark is a facilitator, educator, and coauthor of Slow Democracy: Rediscovering Community, Bringing Decision Making Back Home and All Those In Favor (a book about Vermont town meetings). She consults with communities across the northeast about how to build inclusive, deliberative, and empowered community engagement. Her work can be found at www.slowdemocracy.org

The lights are on and Bethel is hopping this holiday season! Come on downtown on Friday, December 9 for local shopping, great food and drink, holiday lights and stroll, free treats and prizes, and Bethel for All’s Bright Ideas Open House at Town Hall.

Village Streetscape & Parks Design - Bethel for All Forum
Expanded sidewalks for seating or ramps. Street trees and beautification. Safer and easier parking. Pocket parks and public spaces. Come see the draft village streetscape and park designs from DuBois & King. Share your input on priority ideas for making our village streets and parks safer, more appealing, and more accessible to all.
Growing Capacity for Action
There’s a lot going on in Bethel right now, and so many exciting ideas on the table. But we’re a small town, with a small town staff and budget, and many tapped out volunteers. Join us to talk capacity: where is Bethel short on time, people or resources? What assets do we have? How might we increase the funding and people-power available in our town? How might we share resources and increase efficiency across town groups or neighboring communities?
Walkability & Accessibility on Bethel Streets
Elevated or expanded sidewalks. Accessible parking. Sidewalk maintenance and replacement funds. Bus stop shelters. Benches, bike racks and street trees. There are many on the table for making Bethel village streets more walkable and accessible. Now it’s time to make a plan. Join Kelly Stoddard-Poor of AARP Vermont to hear top recommendations from Bethel’s walk audit, and DuBois & King to see preliminary streetscape redesigns. Share your input on priority ideas for making our village more accessible to all.
Economic Vitality in Bethel Village - Action Forum
Mixed use housing development. Zoning changes. Community grants and loans. Economic development coordinator or marketing programs. There are lots of ideas on the table, and now it’s time to make a plan. Join economic development consultant Tripp Muldrow to hear top recommendations from Bethel’s market study and share your input on priority ideas for revitalizing our village center and local economy.
FREE Farms, Food & Foliage E-Bike Tour (Bethel Trail Fest)
Explore the amazing farm, food and creative sector businesses and the scenic hills of Bethel, Vermont and the surrounding White River Valley.
This free, self-guided e-bike tour will offer two route choices through the Bethel area. Stop at farm stands, food joints, historic sites and other creative shops. Bring a backpack so you can sample and stock up of the best of local baked goods, honey, maple, produce, flowers, crafts, and other treats. Finish the route at Babes Bar and wind down with a craft cocktail or local brew.

FREE Getting Back on Your Bike Workshop & Ride (Bethel Trail Fest)
Interested in getting back on your bike? If you’re feeling a little rusty, join AARP Vermont at Bethel Trail Fest for this free workshop and relaxed group ride. This event is geared toward older adults or anyone who is interested in getting out on a bike, expanding their biking comfort level, and looking for a refresher on bike safety and rules of the road.
Linda Bowden of AARP Vermont will lead an intro discussion and then a group ride along the White River, on Peavine Boulevard in Bethel.
Free event, open to all. Bring your own bike if you’d like to ride.
Bethel Trail Fest
Discover Bethel’s recreational trail networks, parks, and gravel rides. Get free goodies and gear giveaways. Explore bike safety and skills with free workshops and rides. Play outdoors and meet new friends. Bethel’s first Trails Fest is part of the 2022 Forward Fest.
